Bayern Munich now without SIX players for Manchester United match

As Bayern Munich prepare to face Manchester United in the Champions League next week they will be without at least six players due to injury or suspension.

Just when Bayern Munich thought their luck could not get any worse, it has.

Xherdan Shaqiri is the latest player to be ruled out of the Champions League quarter-final second-leg against Manchester United after the winger sustained an ankle injury on Saturday.

The setback came during Bayern’s shock 1-0 defeat away to Augsburg, although it should be noted that Pep Guardiola rested a number of first-team players for the Bundesliga match, having already wrapped up the title with games to spare.

But a few of his second-string could find themselves called upon as Bayern are now without at least six players for Wednesday’s game against United.

Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez are suspended having picked up red and yellow cards respectively in the first-leg; while Thiago Alcantara has been joined in the treatment room by second-choice goalkeeper Tom Starke, defender Diego Contento and now Shaqiri.

The reigning European champions still have a whole host of enviable talent to call upon, but there is no doubt they are missing a number of players who would either be first-choice when available or very effective options from the bench.

David Moyes will know that whichever side United face next week it will be tough. But Guardiola may just be hoping there are no more setbacks between now and then.
