Chelsea's need for a striker is no secret, emphasised by their losses in recent games to Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and PSG.
They got back on track at the weekend with a 3-0 win over Stoke City, but it was Frank Lampard, Mohamed Salah and Willian scoring the goals.
Speaking after the game on SkySports at the weekend, former Liverpool captain Jamie Redknapp claimed that Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa is the ideal man to lead the line for the Blues next season.
He said: "If Costa was to come to Chelsea then Torres can go back to his first love and that's Atletico <adrid so that may be a move that makes sense and he (Costa) is, make no mistake, a brilliant, brilliant striker.
"He's got that pace, he's almost drogba like, the ability to run beyond people, a left foot, he can drive at teams, win it and score his own goals.
"Torres, Eto'o for the long term, dont have the ability to do what Costa can do."
The Atletico Madrid forward has been sensational this season, netting 33 goals for the club in their best season in recent memory. Redknapp's decision to compare the forward to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba will only make him even more appealing to the club's fans.
Fellow pundit and former Chelsea man Michael Ballack added: "I think they already have an eye on him. You never know whats happnineg in other clubs though and it may depend how they finish the season."
