It is widely acknowledged that Chelsea’s striking options are not as comprehensive as Jose Mourinho would like, with the west London outfit expected to add a centre forward with a proven track record this summer.
However, with the Blues boss opting to play Andre Schurrle as the furthest man forward against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, he has come in for some criticism.
Gary Neville has slated the Stamford Bridge side as ‘toothless’ and questioned why Demba Ba has not been given more of a chance.
“Think about Chelsea teams of the past, they always had Didier Drogba or they could call on Nicolas Anelka or Hernan Crespo,” he wrote in his EA Sports column.
“You look at them now and they’re toothless. The mystery for me with Chelsea is what has happened to Demba Ba?
“Does Mourinho not want to use him or give him a chance? I genuinely believe he can be a real handful from what I’ve seen of him in the Premier League.
“I don’t understand why he hasn’t been used as a striker at Chelsea when Fernando Torres is struggling and Samuel Eto’o is injured!”
Chelsea face an uphill battle to turn their tie around against the big-spending French side but have Stoke to worry about this weekend first.
Potential new strikers to arrive this summer are Diego Costa and Mario Mandzukic, who have both been heavily linked with the west London club.
