PHOTO: Juan Mata's free-kick celebration - He can't believe it!

St James Park Four

Manchester United took the lead against Newcastle United courtesy of a free-kick from Juan Mata.

It was more like the Manchester United of old on Saturday afternoon as the reigning Premier League champions defeated Newcastle United in some style.

Two goals from Juan Mata and one apiece from Javier Hernandez and Adnan Januzaj gave David Moyes' side the points, but they were set on their way by an outstanding free-kick from the club's record-signing.

Mata curled a 20-yard effort into the top corner and celebrated as if he could not quite believe what had just happened.

As you can see from the photograph above, the Spaniard was clearly ecstatic but seemingly simultaneously baffled.  But we can guarantee Juan, it definitely went in!

And it seems the former Chelsea man has well and truly found his feet following his January arrival.  The only question is, can United do it without him when they travel to Munich for the second-leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against the reigning European champions?

Whatever happens on Wednesday, at least Moyes can rest assured that he will have the mercurial Spaniard available for European action from next season onwards.
