Former United star praises backup stopper Lindegaard on Twitter

Mikael Silvestre was impressed with Anders Lindegaard in Manchester United's 4-0 win against Newcastle United.

Manchester United boss David Moyes took the opportunity today to rest players ahead of the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich in midweek - including his goalkeeper David De Gea.

Instead he brought in Danish stopper Anders Lindegaard for his first United appearance since January and his first in the Premier League since he conceded five in the final game of last season - a 5-5 draw against West Brom.

He did not shine in that fixture but today he certainly put himself in the shop window if he is considering making an exit from the club this summer.

Despite the relative ease in which United defeated Newcastle today they still leaked the odd opportunity at the back - but every time found Lindegaard in top form.

He has lost his place in the Danish national team because he has been sitting on the bench at Old Trafford but he certainly has not lost any of his routine sharpness.

It was a fact not lost on former United player Mikael Silvestre.

He was watching the game - and commended Lindegaard for his performance on Tyneside…
