Last month saw Aston Villa being heavily linked with the signature of 23-year-old German winger Andre Hahn of Augsburg.
The talented wide-man has been in sensational form this season - bagging 10 goals for the club and earning his first call up to the senior German national team for the recent friendly against Chile.
Paul Lambert was said to be a fan and scouts reportedly checked him out in action against Schalke 04 - so this seemed to be a deal with a little bit of credence.
He certainly fits the modus operandi of Lambert’s team. A fast and young player, green in terms of experience, and perfect for the club’s counter attacking style.
There was another reason why interest in the player was high - his paltry release clause of just €2.25 million.
But unfortunately for Villa fans Hahn will not be on his way to the club this summer.
He will instead sign for Borussia Monchengladbach.
The Bundesliga side officially announced that Hahn would be a Foal next season after meeting his release clause and reaching personal terms with the client.
Gladbach have already tied up the likes of FC Basel keeper Yann Sommer, VfB Stuttgart man Ibrahima Traore and Hoffenheim star Fabian Johnson - and now Hahn can be added to a very impressive looking roster for next season.
Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl confirmed the deal, stating:
“Andre Hahn has made an incredible development this season; he is one of the highest-scoring wide players and will strengthen our attack. There was some strong competition to sign him, so we're happy he has chosen us."
For Villa’s transfer plans, it is back to the drawing board.
