Villas-Boas, formerly of Chelsea, was sacked by Spurs in December following an embarrassing 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool, but recently returned to football having replaced Luciano Spalletti as manager of Zenit St. Petersburg in Russia.
He has a number of stars already at his disposal, with the likes of Axel Witsel, Hulk and Danny in his squad, but he is already reportedly eyeing up summer moves, and with Zenit funded by Gazprom, 'AVB' can expect a fairly hefty transfer budget this summer.
One of the names linked with the club is Villas-Boas' former Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen, who is reportedly seeking Champions League football next season - with Tottenham can't offer him having slipped off the pace in the race for the fourth and final Champions League place in the Premier League table.
It remains to be seen whether Belgian international would move to Russia, but with compatriot and international team mate Witsel already with Zenit, the former Benfica man could certainly be used to try and push the former Ajax star towards the Petrovsky Stadium.
Whilst Witsel made the move from Benfica to Zenit back in 2012, his former team mate Ezequiel Garay has also been linked with the same switch in recent months, though Manchester United have already been credited with an interest in the Argentine international.
Should Villas-Boas make a push to sign Vertonghen this summer, it could leave Garay open to a move to Old Trafford - which would be immensely useful to United boss David Moyes, who needs defensive reinforcements with the impending exits of experienced duo Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
