Tottenham Hotspur star said to want a move in the summer

Hugo Lloris

After a poor season in the Premier League, Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris has apparently said privately that he wants to leave this summer.

It never rains but it pours for Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks. They have slipped to sixth place in the Premier League and with Manchester United’s form improving; they could drop even further, possibly missing out on European football for next season. To makes things worse, sources in France are suggesting that goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, wants to leave the London club in the summer.

French website Mercato365 understand that privately, the French international goalkeeper has made it known he is unhappy by the clubs lack of ambition, the appointment of Tim Sherwood and the desire shown by some of his teammates.

It is understandable that Lloris would feel this way, he is used to playing in the Champions League, and to settle for what is close to a mid-table place in the Premier League and a season without European competition is not what the goalkeeper is used to.

The main problem for Lloris is going to be a lack of available options if he does want to move. No top club in the Premier League is looking for a top-class ‘keeper. Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City all have a definite first-choice stopper, perhaps at Liverpool he would be an upgrade, but they won’t be looking to sign another goalkeeper for the second consecutive season.

Elsewhere in Europe, Barcelona are facing a transfer ban, Real Madrid have an established number one. There may be a chance of a return to France, but PSG are not going to spend a lot of money on a new goalkeeper with the form and ability of Italian Salvatore Sirigu under no doubt.

One option that may be open to Lloris is a move to AS Monaco. The side from Monte Carlo were meant to be keen on Barcelona ‘keeper Victor Valdes, but his injury and Barca’s transfer situation could put a stop to that. Lloris was born no far away in Nice and his family still live in the region.

Monaco are looking for a top quality goalkeeper to lead their Champions League campaign next season and it could be that Lloris has moved to the top of the Monegasque shortlist.

The only problem for Lloris would be the return to Ligue 1, but he would also be returning to play for Europe’s top prize. It looks like Lloris has a huge decision to make this summer. He is under contract till 2016, so Spurs may want to cash in after the amount of money they spent on transfers last summer.
