€25m potential Cole replacement Chelsea target going nowhere says his coach

Ricardo Rodriguez is a reported Chelsea target but Wolfsburg are not ready to sell.

This season has seen a changing of the guard in the left-back position for Chelsea FC - as stalwart Ashley Cole has seen his baton passed to a usual right back in Cesar Azpilicueta.

The Spanish international has been superb in his unusual position - but Jose Mourinho is still said to be considering a more natural left-back option with plenty of names mentioned.

Southampton star Luke Shaw seems to be the big favourite but another player who has been linked with the club is VfL Wolfsburg’s in-form defender Ricardo Rodriguez.

The Swiss international has been one of the top performing players in the Bundesliga - and at just 21-years-old is considered as one of the top full-back talents on the planet.

The Blues were said to be eyeing up a potential €25 million move for the player in the summer - and at one point it was even suggested he could be involved in some part of the Kevin De Bruyne deal.

But despite all the rumours, rumours which Rodriguez himself has failed to speak about at length, it appears that Wolfsburg are not willing to sell.

VfL Wolfsburg take on Borussia Dortmund this afternoon - and before the game their head coach Dieter Hecking has spoken about the future of his full back, suggesting no deal was on the cards for the player:

"We are not prepared to give him. If he wants to hear it again, he may be happy. "

Rodriguez is certainly an excellent talent - but Wolfsburg have no need to sell. They are trying to build up a title challenging side once again in a league dominated by Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in recent years.

His signing would likely come at a cost in excess of that which Luke Shaw would make the move for.

So this potential deal appears to be running cold.
