Robert Pires had the pleasure of playing with some great strike forces during his professional career. Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp at Arsenal and Henry and David Trezeguet for France - so who better to ask the question of which is the world’s best strike partnership right now?
In the modern game the two man strike force is a seemingly prehistoric concept.
4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1 have taken over in recent years - so when Arsenal legend Pires was asked during his Q&A session on the official Facebook page for the Uefa Champions League earlier today who he felt was the best striker on the planet - he was short of choice in the first place.
Not that it would have mattered.
“That's a tough question. Suarez and Sturridge [are the best] - two very good strikers who complement each other very well. They're the best duo in Europe.”
It is easy to see why he came to this conclusion.
In the Premier League Luis Suarez has 29 goals while Daniel Sturridge has 20 - a combined total of 49 goals between the pair.
To find another striking partnership anywhere near this level in Europe is almost impossible. The nearest example would perhaps be Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema - but in reality there is no doubting the opinion of Pires on this matter - SAS are the best in the business.
And this weekend they will hope to cut through West Ham at Upton Park on their march toward a potential Premier League title.
