Just over two thirds of Chelsea fans want to see Thibaut Courtois as the club’s number one ahead of Petr Cech next season.
Goal.com ran a poll asking Blues’ supporters who they thought should be the number one at Stamford Bridge next season and 67% of those who took part suggested the Belgian should be the club’s main goalkeeper next season.
There has been intense speculation throughout the season over Courtois’ future, with several clubs linked with signing him while recent reports suggest he will sign a long term deal with the West London side.
What the decision to make Courtois number one would mean for Cech is hard to judge.
He’s been the number one at the club, and one of their most consistent players, for a number of years and could find it difficult to adjust from going from that importance to a point where he’s benched as back up to the 21-year-old.
In the same way, the youngster doesn’t want to return to his parent club and sit on the bench having progressed dramatically during his time with Atletico Madrid on loan.
The possible danger of losing Courtois is clearly playing on the minds of many supporters and the best way for the Blues to keep him is to give him exactly what he wants; the number one spot and first team football.
