Aston Villa fans react to Benteke injury on Twitter: The one positive…

Christian Benteke has been ruled out of action for six months, but one Villa fan believes this will end the transfer rumours to Tottenham Hotspur.

Eight points clear from the relegation zone, Aston Villa have already earned 34 points nine victories and seven draws thus far this season and, with seven remaining matches in their Premier League fixture list, they should gain enough points that will see them continue to stay clear of the drop.

However, Paul Lambert was hit with a hammer blow today as striker Christian Benteke has been ruled out for between six months and eight months, will therefore miss the FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil this summer as well as, possibly, the first half of the 2014-2015 Premier League season.

Benteke "suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon injury in training", a statement on the club's official website confirmed.

Manager Lambert said: "It's a terrible blow both for Christian and for the Club. He will miss the rest of the season, obviously, and also the World Cup. But he'll work hard because that's what he does and he'll come back for us stronger than ever next season."

The fans are not too downhearted, though.

While some will lament his absence, others have criticised the striker's output this season. He has, after all, scored ten and set up three from his 26 appearances in the division this season which is substantially inferior to his haul of 19 goals and four assists from 34 Premier League games last year.

There have also been some Villans fans who believe Benteke's injury, despite it's long-term nature, could be a blessing in disguise as it will ensure no clubs - like Tottenham Hotspur or Everton - pursue their player in the summer, like they did last year.
