Paris Saint-Germain took on Chelsea at Parc des Princes on Wednesday night in the Champions League quarter-finals. The home side finished 3-1 winners in the first-leg, giving the English side a huge task to overturn in the second-leg next week.
It was the first time since 2004 that the two nouveau riche clubs have met, back then the sides were world’s apart, Chelsea had just begun their new dawn with the Abramovic’s open pockets and PSG’s side looked almost unrecognisable.
This time is was a meeting between two of Europe’s elite clubs and it was the French side that finished with the advantage.
Ezequiel Lavezzi opened the scoring after just three minutes, firing in after John Terry’s poor headed clearance. Eden Hazard then equalised from the penalty spot after Oscar was fouled by Thiago Silva.
PSG were a lot livelier in the second-half and Lavezzi’s free-kick was turned in by Chelsea midfielder David Luiz, and it was left to Javier Pastore to seal the 3-1 win deep in injury-time.
