Website Football Direct News have claimed Jose Mourinho would consider selling Andre Schurrle to Liverpool. Here's why it's quite ludicrous a suggestion.
FDN claims that Liverpool will make an approach for Chelsea wide man and forward Andre Schurrle in the summer, as Brendan Rodgers looks to improve his squad ahead of the Reds’ participation in the Champions League.
The first problem with this story is that there is no sourcing, simply ‘FDN understands,’ which makes it difficult to trust because there is nothing official from a trusted source or from either club.
Secondly, Schurrle is a player whose transfer Jose Mourinho oversaw personally and his first during his second spell in charge of the West London side.
That’s a huge indication that Mourinho is thinking long term with the German and while he may not have featured as much as he may have liked this season, proved by the five-year contract the Blues gave him when he first signed for the club.
Rather than falling completely off the wagon, he’s taken the challenge of getting into the Chelsea side well and is currently keeping Willian out of the team, who has been in splendid form throughout the season.
It seems as though Mourinho, based on the way he currently sets up his team, is happy with two players in Willian and Schurrle who can occupy the right hand side of midfield.
Chelsea aren’t a side that play with extraordinary width which means the chances that Mourinho will go out, buy a world class winger and then move Schurrle onto a side that can hurt Chelsea domestically and on the European scene just doesn’t make sense.
He’s notched up 11 goals in all competitions for Chelsea, bagging four in his last six games and placing himself right at the forefront of Mourinho’s selection policy at the moment, making it difficult for the Portuguese coach to drop him.
Rubbish Rating: No one thought Mourinho would sell Juan Mata but considering Liverpool’s rise to become one of Chelsea’s main rivals, there’s only a minimal chance of this deal happening.
