Premier League club to reimburse fans after weekend defeat

Norwich City

Norwich fans will refund tickets of all 899 fans who travelled to South Wales

Norwich City players have said they will reimburse their travelling support who witnessed their 3-0 defeat to Swansea at the weekend.

The Canaries took just under 900 fans to South Wales for their game with the Swans, meaning fans faced a minimum of a ten and a half hour round trip to watch the game.

Norwich’s defeat saw the club reignite fear of relegation as Swansea jumped above them in the table and Crystal Palace gained three points on them. They still sit six points clear of Cardiff City in eighth, but face Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal in their final four games of the season.

Noriwch club captain Russell Martin released a statement on Tuesday, saying the players would pitch in themselves to refund fans tickets.

"Our fans have been brilliant home and away this season and the numbers we get on the road are really impressive when you consider how far they have to travel up and down the country from Norfolk," he said.

"All the lads really felt for the fans at the end of Saturday’s game, with most of them facing something like a six-hour drive home. Hopefully this will help them with the cost of travelling to our next away game at Fulham."

Adult tickets for the game at Swansea were priced at £20, while concession tickets were £10 as part of a compromise deal with the Swans.

Norwich now face West Bromwich Albion on the weekend in a must win game at the foot of the Premier League table.
