On this day: Arsenal after £15m former star as Chelsea track Yaya Toure

On the 2nd April 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Chelsea, Everton, Arsenal and Manchester City.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 2nd April 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 2nd April 2013…

Sing a Song for Song

Arsenal were being linked with the re-signature of Cameroonian midfielder Alex Song. The player had joined Barcelona the previous summer in a deal worth around £15 million.

However he had found the going tough in his new surroundings - struggling to make his way into the first-team under Tito Villanova and then Jordi Moura.

Arsenal were reportedly set to offer around £12/7 million to bring him back to The Emirates - but in the end no such bid was forthcoming and the interest has seemingly dissipated.

Manchester United and Inter Milan however are still said to be keen.

Yaya to Na Na

Chelsea were being linked with a sensational swoop for Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure in the summer. It was reported that the former Barcelona man was unhappy at City and was considering a move away from the club after contract talks broke down.

Of course that didn’t happen - in fact, just two days later, Toure signed a new four-year contract at Eastlands.

Everton to Nab striker?

Everton were being linked with a move for Algerian striker Nabil Ghilas. The Moreirense striker had been in rich goalscoring form for the struggling Primeira Liga outfit and was being looked at by many an interested party.

However he eventually signed for FC Porto - and has gone on to struggle with his new outfit.

Probably a wise decision not to sign him then.
