Controversial referee returning to Vicarage Road after six years

Stuart Attwell is officiating a game at Watford for the first time since the infamous 'ghost goal' against Reading in 2008.

Strange things can happen in football, and a strange thing certainly did in Setepmber 2008 when Steve Coppel's Reading made the short journey to Watford's Vicarage Road.

Referee Stuart Attwell can be assured of a frosty reception from the Watford fans on Saturday, who are unlikely to have forgotten the incident. Fortunately for the officials the game ended 2-2 but the blunder did make it onto the News at 10.

Burnley are the team visiting Vicarage Road this weekend, without key strikers Danny Ings and Sam Vokes and fresh from their first league home defeat of the season.

Watford have had an inconsistent season but scored four goals in their last outing, and are sure to give their all as former manager Sean Dyche returns to the stadium.

Things are looking uncertain for Burnley for the first time all season, but one thing we can be sure of is that the referee will feel he has something to prove and will be trying his best.

Though keep your eye on Soccer Saturday, because with Attwell returning to Vicarage Road it could be another comical afternoon.
