Can Leicester bag promotion this weekend?

Leicester City have been sat at the top of the table since December and could gain promotion this weekend if results go their way.

There's no doubt that Leicester deserve to be where they are at this stage of the season. The league's top scorers have been consistently impressive and show no signs of letting up as they did at the same stage last season.

This weekend could mark their return to the Premier League, providing the results around them go their way.

The Foxes take on Sheffield Wednesday at the King Power Stadium on Friday and a win would mean that if QPR lose and Derby fail to win, promotion will be sealed.

Defeating Wednesday is no easy task however, and a win for them would see them move ever closer to the top-half.

QPR travel to Bournemouth on the Saturday, to face the Cherries who sit top of the Championship form table and in with a real chance of making the final play-off spot theirs. Manager Eddie Howe has picked out this weekends game against the Hoops as his most anticipated of the season: "It will be a terrific game when they bring their team down."

"Then it’s Reading, who we beat earlier on in the season, but they are a top side."

"If we are to achieve anything these games will be huge for us."

Meanwhile in the other game that could decide if Leicester gain promotion this weekend, Derby will travel to Middlesbrough who they beat at the iPro back in December in a tight game.

QPR went to the Riverside recently and won the game in stoppage time with two dramatic goals. It's likely to be a difficult affair for Derby who will have to be at their very best.

Cardiff were last year promoted on April 16th, but the earliest to have done it were Reading with a record points total of 106 back in 2006. Ironically their promotion came in a 1-1 draw at Leicester City. That day Reading needed a win to seal promotion, but Watford and Leeds dropping points meant even defeat would have seen them promoted.

The same scenario isn't open to Leicester but I don't think promotion for them is beyond any doubt now, whether it happens this weekend or not.
