Liverpool morning news, 'If we win it, Stevie will really deserve it,' Reds staying focused on own job

A selection of the latest stories surrounding Liverpool Football Club this Wednesday morning

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has said the side has to win the title to complete Steven Gerrard’s trophy collection.

The Premier League is the only medal missing from Gerrard’s collection, as he has won three League Cups, two FA Cups, one Champions League, and one UEFA Cup amongst many personal accolades.

Sturridge is quoted in the Daily Mirror, saying: “There’s no one more appropriate than Stevie to lift the trophy. If we win it, Stevie will really deserve it. He should win the Premier League because of everything he’s done for this club."

Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has said the Reds are only focused on their own results and performances and are not thinking too much about the results of their title rivals.

Mignolet is quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “You just win your own game and look at your own performance. It is not about the other teams around us, it is more about what we have to do than be looking over our shoulder.

“We don’t really think about what the opponents have to do, we think about what we have to do and think about our jobs. That is far more important for us as a team.”

Reds legend Kevin Keegan has told the Liverpool Echo that Liverpool have been restored to a team that’s worth watching.

He said: “They’ve got it [the title] in their own hands. They’ve got to beat Manchester City at home – that’s a crucial game.

“For me it’s about restoring Liverpool Football Club to a team really worth watching that excites you, that plays football the way it should be played.”
