Chelsea close to making big decision on star's future - report

Stamford Bridge

Chelsea stopper Thibaut Courtois looks set to renew his contract at Stamford Bridge before heading out to Atletico Madrid for a fourth loan spell next season.

In news that will delight Chelsea fans, Thibaut Courtois looks set to extend his stay in London until summer 2019, despite rumours linking the Belgian goalkeeper with moves elsewhere.

According to the report in The Daily Mail however, it is understood an agreement has been made between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid once again, and Courtois will remain in Spain next year for a fourth loan spell at the club.

The 21-year-old once again made headlines for his outstanding performance against Barcelona in the Champions League last night. Once again he stunted the impact of Argentinian star Lionel Messi, who has now gone five games without getting the better of the Belgian 'keeper.

Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino admitted after the match that Courtois looked like 'one of the best goalkeepers in the world,' while Diego Simone said the youngster will get better and better.

If he does indeed sign the new deal at Chelsea, then it just reaffirms his stance that he sees his future at Stamford Bridge and will bide his time to displace the current Chelsea number one Petr Cech.

The news, however, will come as a huge blow to Real Madrid who have reportedly been tracking his progress while in Spain.
