Arsenal fans react to Mandzukic cameo on Twitter - 'Upgraded Giroud'

Most Arsenal fans seemed impressed with the performance of Mario Mandzukic after he came on as a second half substitute against Manchester United.

Last night saw Manchester United take on the unenviable task of facing the best team in world football right now, Bayern Munich, on home turf.

Pep Guardiola’s side came to Old Trafford as the undisputed favourites and United set up their defensive unit appropriately.

In the end, despite dominating, Bayern only came away with a 1-1 draw from Manchester. The away goal could prove pivotal, but for United this is a result they would have taken at the start of the night.

But it was the introduction of one specific player that gave Bayern the goalscoring impact they needed.

Mario Mandzukic was, perhaps surprisingly, left on the bench in favour of Thomas Muller. The more agile option struggled to impact on the game and Mandzukic was introduced in the second half.

And his height and strength proved vital when knocking down a perfectly weighted header into the path of Bastian Schweinsteiger - who tucked the ball away left-footed for 1-1.

For Mandzukic such an impact should not come as a surprise.

It was his sixth assist in a season in which he has scored 17 Bundesliga goals - the best in the division.

Interestingly he is one ahead of Robert Lewandowski - the guy set to replace him next season once he switches from Borussia Dortmund.

Mandzukic is clearly not a Pep Guardiola player - not his cup of tea you could say.

In January he was dropped after a poor effort in training and despite his excellent season the arrival of Lewandowski is set to see him out of the club in the summer.

One team said to be keen are Arsenal - and yesterday plenty of their fans took notice of his cameo against United.

The Gunners have just Olivier Giroud as a front-line striker and he has recently been the victim of much criticism after some poor performances.

With Mandzukic said to be available in the summer - many a Gunners follower seems very happy at the prospect of the Croatian leading the line.
