Iker Casillas is becoming something of an ever-present in the transfer rumour XI. And now the Real Madrid goalkeeper can add another appearance in the gossip columns to his tally, after website Vozpopuli ran a story linking him with a move to England.
‘So what’s new?’ you may ask.
Well, the latest story claims the Spanish stopper is “going to play in the Premier League” with Manchester City the most likely destination despite Casillas said to prefer a move to London.
This goes against recent quotes from the 32-year-old in which he said he would love to play the next eight years at the Bernabeu.
“I’d love to be able to keep playing for Real Madrid until I’m 40,” the ‘keeper was recently quoted as saying. “But a time will come when that’s not possible. I’ll consider my future at Real when my contract expires.
Considering that his current deal runs until 2017, it seems the latest report is little more than pie-in-the-sky, and yet will Casillas really continue to be happy playing so little for the club he loves.
Perhaps so, or perhaps he will return to his place as undisputed number one in the campaigns to come. But it appears in Spain that some people believe he will still be on his way, be that to Arsenal, City or somewhere else entirely.
