Manchester United pre-game latest: Bayern team news & Ancelotti rumours

News, views and rumours relating to Manchester United in the past 24 hours.

Manchester United take on Bayern Munich tonight in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final clash at Old Trafford.

In team news, David Moyes has a number of defensive issues – vice-captain Patrice Evra is suspended and his potential replacement Alexander Buttner is a ‘doubt’ due to a hamstring injury.

Right-back Rafael is also a doubt after missing training through injury on Monday whilst centre backs Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling have only recently returned from injury, leaving Phil Jones the only senior defender to be a definite starter.

Juan Mata is cup-tied and ineligible for selection while Robin van Persie remains out injured.

The predicted line-up tonight is:

De Gea – Jones – Ferdinand – Buttner – Giggs – Carrick – Fallaini – Januzaj – Rooney – Welbeck

Meanwhile, rumours have emerged that Carlo Ancelotti could replace Moyes at Old Trafford at the end of the season.

This follows speculation Red Devils veteran Ryan Giggs could leave Manchester United, despite the Welshman dismissing rumours of a rift with Moyes this week.

In transfer news, Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insists Toni Kroos will not move to United this summer, despite numerous reports linking the Germany midfielder with a move to Old Trafford.
