Manchester United enjoyed a change in fortunes at the weekend after damning a sorry Aston Villa side to a 4-1 defeat at Old Trafford. Nevertheless, the talk of spending was once again on everybody's lips and with summer transfer window edging ever closer we take a look at who on Manchester United's wishlist impressed over the past weekend.
Adam Lallana - One goal and one assist.
If there is one man in the Premier League whose reputation is growing faster than Southampton defender Luke Shaw, it's his teammate Adam Lallana.
The attacking midfielder, who was part of Southampton's League One promotion winning side, has hit form at exactly the right time. The 25-year-old is now the name on everybody's lips as Roy Hodgson plans who he wants in his squad to take Brazil for the World Cup, with many people predicting Lallana for a starting spot.
He was, once again, instrumental to Southampton's success at the weekend, scoring and creating goals in the Saints 4-0 victory over Newcastle United. England teammates Rodriguez and Lambert were also on target as Alan Pardew's sorry side went back to the North-East with their tail between their legs.
Koke - One goal and one assist.
The Atletico Madrid midfielder was absolutely key in his side's win over Athletic Bilbao at the weekend, playing a huge part in both goals.
In what proved to be an immensely tight affair in Bilbao, it was Manchester United's €60m transfer target that proved decisive as Atletico performed a snatch and grab, winning 2-1, despite heavy pressure.
Iker Muniain - One goal.
In the same game, another one of Manchester United's reported targets also found the net, this time for the opposite team in Iker Muniain.
The 21-year-old proved to be a thorn in Atletico's side, but unfortunately his goal couldn't tip the balance in his team's favour. He proved a tricky customer with his dribbling and also created a further two goalscoring opportunities, however, it just wasn't to be his day.
Marco Reus - Three goals.
The former Bundesliga Player of the Year proved to be the difference in Borussia Dortmund's tight 3-2 win over Stuttgart at the weekend, scoring all three of their goals.
He provided for Dortmund what Manchester United have arguably been missing for the majority of this season. He never let the Stuttgart defence rest as his effort in the match was commendable. He struck a further four shots on goal, besides the three he scored and created two goalscoring opportunities.
Stefano Denswil - One goal.
20-year-old defender Stefano Denswil got himself on the scoresheet as Ajax destroyed fellow Champions League hopefuls FC Twente.
In a game that proved more comfortable than it was forecast, the table toppers proved to have too much for Champions League chasers FC Twente. The 20-year-old's contribution at both ends of the pitch did not go unnoticed and the goal really was the cherry on top. He produced the joint-most effective clearances in the game, along with Twente's Cuco Martina, as well as the joint-most tackles on the pitch.
He is another young player with a great future, and his performance is unlikely to have slipped below David Moyes's radar.
