Manchester United urged to make Liverpool backroom revelation a summer signing

David Moyes Interview - 23/02/2014

Ronnie O'Sullivan believes David Moyes needs to look at Liverpool's backroom for the answer to Manchester United's problems.

Snooker legend Ronnie O'Sullivan believes Manchester United should consider signing Liverpool's sports psychiatrist Dr Steve Peters in order to end their current malaise.

Under-fire Red Devils boss David Moyes could be handed up to £200 million this summer as the fallen Premier League champions attempt to overhaul their squad, with Southampton full-back Luke Shaw and Bayern Munich's Toni Kroos both expected to be priority targets.

Sporting Lisbon's defensive midfielder William Carvalho and Borussia Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan have also been linked with moves to Old Trafford but five-time world champion O'Sullivan has urged Moyes to consider strengthening his backroom options also.

The 38-year-old is a high-profile advocate of the psychologist's work and worked with him to his consecutive world titles. Peters has also been credited with aiding successes in other sports, including Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton's cycling exploits at the London Olympics.

Just months after the 2012 games, Peters was appointed Liverpool's sports psychiatrist on a part-time basis and was recently confirmed as a member of England's backroom staff for this summer's World Cup finals in Brazil.

Yesterday's 4-0 win over Tottenham took the Anfield club two points clear at the top of the Premier League table as they maintained their push to be crowned champions of England, and O'Sullivan claims that United could reap similar benefits by enlisting Peters' services.

Do you agree with Rocket Ronnie? Is it just mind over matter for United?
