Benik Afobe enjoyed a goal-scoring return to the Sheffield Wednesday starting line-up at the weekend, although he would have taken little pleasure from it with the Owls going down 4-1 to Watford.
The strike was the Arsenal starlet’s second goal for the Championship side since his loan move in February, and in an interview with Wednesday’s official website, he has revealed he is enjoying every minute of his temporary spell.
“It’s been very easy to settle in from day one,” he said. “The boys have been good to me. The gaffer, the coaching staff and the fans have all taken to me so it has been pretty easy.”
With Arsene Wenger expected to make a number of new signings this summer, and with another current loanee – Joel Campbell – almost certain to return to stake a claim in the first-team, what does the future hold for Afobe?
With a contract that expires in the summer of 2015, he will surely be hoping to extend that. But as he revealed in the interview, time will tell what happens; for now it is all about the Owls.
“I’ll return to Arsenal in pre-season and sit down with the boss and see where I go from there,” he added.
“I’ve got another year left at Arsenal but at the moment I’m just concentrating on the next seven games for Sheffield Wednesday.”
That is something his current fans will be glad to hear. And perhaps if he keeps finding the net, that conversation with Wenger will lead to a happy resolution for all concerned.
