It is a bizarre situation when one of your best players – in fact one of the best players in the world in that position – has become so elsewhere. But such is the case with Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
The Belgian stopper has excelled since first moving to Atletico Madrid almost three years ago. But with Petr Cech showing no signs of waning, Jose Mourinho has a big decision to make as to which of his two excellent ‘keepers he puts his hopes on in the future.
Recent rumours that Courtois could swap one Madrid club for the other were swiftly dismissed. But the 21-year-old’s long-term destination is still unknown, something he has hinted will not be the case for much longer.
Inside Spanish Football has published quotes from the player during an interview with radio station Onda Cero’s Al Primer Toque programme.
Amidst his thoughts on the La Liga campaign and the upcoming Champions league matches against Barcelona, Courtois said of his future, “I’ll let you know my decision; I’m going to announce it soon. For now, I’m just focused on the games we have left.”
So in less than two months, it appears Chelsea fans will know what the future holds for one of the most exciting young players in the game, and yet one who, inexplicably, may never play for the Blues.
