Arsenal linked centre-back nets 4th goal in 10 games

Could Stoppila Sunzu become an option for the Gunners in the summer?

Stoppila Sunzu netted his fourth goal from 10 starts in Ligue 1 at the weekend, illustrating his aerial prowess once again.

The Zambian international headed home in Sochaux's 1-1 draw with Marseille, following up goals against Guingamp, Lorient and Nantes.

The 24-year-old's efforts have helped Sochaux win two of their last five games, as they bid to haul themselves out of the relegation zone.

Sunzu is a player who was last year linked with a switch to England, with Reading and Sunderland interested. Yet it was Arsenal who were most closely touted, after the player himself claimed:

"I will be travelling to England to sign a deal with Arsenal after the friendly game against Tanzania. I spoke to both Mr Katumbi (his current club manager) and Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger who assured me that I would not be going to London for trials but to discuss personal terms and possibly sign a contract."

This clearly turned out not to be the case, but the defender's progress may not have gone unnoticed by the club's scouts since joining Sochaux.

With Thomas Vermaelen rumoured to be departing the club this summer, Arsenal will be in the market for a cnew centre-back. Signing a defender with a clear eye for goal may not be a bad option.
