There have been a lot of rumours regarding Manchester United’s summer transfer activity, some more likely than others. But the latest story regarding one of their current starlets can be placed swiftly in our Transfer Bin.
The Sunday People reports that Swansea City are considering making a £5million move for midfielder Nick Powell, and that United boss David Moyes would be willing to sell.
Well, we are sorry Swans fans, but we just do not think that is going to happen.
Powell has enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Wigan Athletic, where he has scored 12 goals and provided three assists to date. And despite making little headway in the United squad since his move from Crewe Alexandra, Powell has both time and talent on his side.
The attacking midfielder was creating a montage of wonder-goals when he was barely 18 at Crewe, and after scoring on his debut for United against the Latics, he has continued his fine goal-scoring form for that very club in the Championship.
At just 20, Powell has plenty of time to show Moyes what he can do in a United shirt, and some would argue he deserved a shot this season ahead of the likes of Tom Cleverley.
There is little doubt a side like Swansea would love to sign Powell for what would be a bargain £5million fee. After all, he is destined to be a future England international of some quality.
But while a number of players will be leaving Old Trafford this summer, we cannot see Powell being one of them. Of all United’s young prospects, he is one of the most exciting.
