Moyes giving Januzaj the Rooney treatment

David Moyes is treating Adnan Januzaj in a similar way to the way he did with Wayne Rooney at Everton.

Manchester United defeated Aston Villa in the Premier League yesterday - with strikes from Wayne Rooney (2), Juan Mata and Javier Hernandez.

The final goal, tucked away by the Mexican Chicharito, came after some superb work down the left-hand flank by the club’s number one starlet Adnan Januzaj.

In fact, he impressed with almost every touch after making his entrance.

The talented teen, who has come to the fore this campaign, has recently seen his playing time diminish.

David Moyes has admitted that his reasons for this is to delay any inevitable fatigue a player of his age is likely to suffer:

"I think Adnan has played an incredible amount of games for a 19-year-old. We have to be mindful of that. We have seen signs in training that we have to be careful what we do with him. He is a great talent and he is someone we know will go a long way at Manchester United. But we are just being careful with him. We have to do the right things and he has played a lot of football."

And this is not the first time Moyes has wrapped a talented young star in cotton wool in his early steps into professional football.

In fact he recently handed such a player a new £300k-a-week contract.

The player in question is of course Wayne Rooney - who Moyes brought through at Everton as a teenager.

But in the 2004-05 season he spent some time out of the team - as Moyes said similar things about Rooney as he has done about Januzaj this week:

"He's just an 18-year-old who has done unbelievably well and is progressing and, like everyone else, you have ups and downs. His ability is not in question; his talent is not in question. I think it's just a matter of time until he comes back into good form. We have played him in a lot of games this season already and we need to look at that."

And it certainly didn’t seem to do Rooney any harm in the long run - so perhaps he is adopting the right approach with his latest young protégé.
