Manchester United fans must get sick of all the transfer rumours. And yet at the same time, the majority of football fans cannot fail to get excited when their club is linked with a great player, no matter how unlikely that move may be.
Earlier this month, and not for the first time, United were linked with Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus.
Considering the fact that Reus has already gone on record to say there is more to the game than money – in light of Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski’s agreements with Bayern Munich – United may struggle to bring in the 24-year-old, even if they do throw in a player Jurgen Klopp rates extremely highly in the form of Kagawa.
But Reus showed on Saturday just why he would be an excellent addition to Moyes’ squad, and why United will be far from the only side interested if he does opt to leave Dortmund either this summer or further down the line.
Reus scored all three goals in Dortmund’s 3-2 victory over VfB Stuttgart, giving his side a much-needed victory in a campaign that has hit the skids somewhat. He had seven shots during the match, three of which were on target, he played two key passes and he had a pass-completion rate of 78%.
That hat-trick made it a very impressive 17 goals for the season. And when you factor in his 16 assists, he is well worth the investment if United can somehow convince Dortmund to do business.
But that will be much easier said than done.
