Dutch international midfielder Marco van Ginkel has upped his recovery from injury with some more precious minutes under his belt.
The 21-year-old £8m summer signing from Vitesse has unfortunately missed the majority of this season after suffering a damaging ACL injury last September during Chelsea’s League Cup victory over Swindon Town.
The defensive midfielder had shown great promise before the injury, and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will be keeping a close eye on his recovery as the youngster has a bright future at Stamford Bridge.
Last weekend was van Ginkel’s official recovery match, as he played the second half of Chelsea U21’s 0-0 draw against Manchester United.
This week, however, the Chelsea starlet upped the time spent on the pitch to 60 minutes, and helped the Chelsea U21 side dominate opponents Blackburn Rovers as the Londoners ran out comfortable 1-0 winners.
There still remains a long way to go in his recovery, but for now, van Ginkel can just enjoy being back out on the pitch and look forward to joining up with the first-team squad in the near future.
