The Portuguese boss and his mind-games are almost worth an extra few points a season, but is he right in this particular case?
The Merseyside club have arguably exceeded expectations this season, and find themselves lodged in a three-way title challenge alongside Chelsea and Manchester City with just two months of the season remaining.
Brendan Rodgers’ men find themselves one point behind leaders Chelsea, and two ahead of Manchester City – though Manuel Pellegrini’s men have two games in hand.
With some crucial fixtures still to play, including a visit to Anfield for both Chelsea and City, the destination of the title remains anybody’s guess.
Jose Mourinho, however, is adamant his side are the underdogs, and he claims that Liverpool’s cup-free perfect season gives them the advantage.
He said: “Liverpool keep going in their perfect season while we have no time to prepare matches like they have. It is a big advantage City have just now and an advantage Liverpool have had since the start of the season.”
“When you have six days a week to prepare a match [like Liverpool] and maybe train twice a day, you have conditions to improve that nobody else has.”
“You can see clearly that some of their players are not paying the consequences of accumulation of fatigue, you see freshness, you see players of a certain age who don't need to rest for matches.”
“The season for them is the perfect season to do what they are doing.”
