Wenger – often dubbed the professor - still throws in a few puzzling comments from time to time, and ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Manchester City, he tossed the press another curveball.
According to The Mirror, Arsene Wenger has suggested that only one team has really outplayed his Arsenal side this season.
Gunners’ supporters (and neutral observers), however, will no doubt feel a little different. Arsenal lost 6-0 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last week in an embarrassingly easy encounter for the Blues, while Arsenal also conceded six against Manchester City at the Etihad earlier this season - ending up the wrong end of a 6-3 thriller.
In the Champions League, Arsenal fared rather better, but as soon as they were reduced to ten men against Bayern Munich in the last 16 first-round tie, it was all one-way traffic and Arsenal were lucky to walk off facing just a 2-0 deficit.
Wenger, however, seem to believe that Arsenal's 5-1 drubbing against Liverpool in February was the only case where his team really didn't turn up.
He commented: 'The only game for me where we were really beaten was at Liverpool. The rest is a bit more coincidence going negatively together.
'At Chelsea the game was over after ten minutes. At Liverpool we were outplayed on the day and there’s not a lot to say'.
Were Arsenal outplayed against Chelsea and Manchester City this season ?
