On this day: Liverpool want Eriksen, Schurrle swap and Thiago available

Christian Eriksen

On the 28th March 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 28th March 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 28th March 2013…

Schurrle-y

Chelsea were reportedly ready to make a move for Andre Schurrle once again - with Kevin De Bruyne likely to act as a makeweight in any deal.

The Belgian was out on loan at Werder Bremen at the time and had begun to impress other Bundesliga sides - who were all readying a summer assault on Chelsea.

Meanwhile the Blues had an outstanding interest in Schurrle from the previous summer.

In the end Chelsea did get Schurrle - but De Bruyne was not involved in the deal.

Instead he stayed at the club before joining VfL Wolfsburg in January this year.

Christian belief

Liverpool were reportedly leading the chase to sign Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen. The Danish international had made his intention to leave the club clear over the past couple of months - and Ajax had reluctantly accepted that his mind was made up over his future.

And Merseyside looked like his destination:

“We have the list of scouts of foreign clubs who have been here recently and Liverpool have been a regular visitor.”

Those were the words of sporting director Marc Overmars - however 12 months later and Eriksen will take on Liverpool in a Tottenham shirt tomorrow.

All systems Thiago

Manchester United were being linked with Thiago Alcantara for the first time in what was a summer filled with this story.

It was reported that the Spanish midfielder had informed Barcelona he wished to leave the club in order to play more first-team football - and that United were now ready to swoop.

He has since gone on to star for Bayern Munich after a summer switch to Bundesliga - and United must be regretting not pressing ahead with a deal.
