Manchester United 4-1 Aston Villa: Plane protest overshadowed by good win

Old Trafford Statues

Manchester United beat Aston Villa 4-1 at Old Trafford earlier today.

All the talk before this match was about a plane flying over the ground with a message of discontent about current Manchester United manager David Moyes. And yet by the end of the 4-1 victory over Aston Villa, few still had that on their minds.

Instead they were talking about Wayne Rooney's double, a first goal for club-record signing Juan Mata and the icing on the cake by Javier Hernandez.

United may have fallen behind to an Ashley Westwood free-kick just 13 minutes into the match, but they were soon on level terms through Rooney, who scored a second from the penalty spot just before the interval.

Having won the penalty, Mata went on to score himself with a right-foot drive into the bottom corner, before Hernandez did what he once did with regularity, coming on from the bench and finding the net in injury-time.

The result means United are two points behind Tottenham having played a game more, while Villa remain in 12th place.
