After Ronaldo and Nani, speed-demon tipped for United 'wants to play at a high level soon'

Carlos Mane has been linked with Manchester United for a while, and his agent has now suggested he is ready for a move when the time is right.

In his homeland, Carlos Mane has been dubbed by some as “the new Cristiano Ronaldo” while others have said he is more akin to Nani, but considerably better.

Either way, the Sporting Lisbon winger’s career is on an upward curve, with some of England’s biggest clubs linked with him.

Manchester United will have seen him in action plenty of times this season, even if the scouts regularly sent to Portugal are more likely to have been keeping tabs on his teammate William Carvalho.

But if Mane is as good as many are suggesting David Moyes may soon have a decision to make as to just how many Sporting players he makes offers for.

At just 20, with a contract until 2018 and with a reported €45million release-clause, there is no reason to see Mane leaving his current club just yet.

But as Sporting have showed in the past through the transfers of Ronaldo and Nani, they are prone to selling for less than the headline figures; although they may now have learnt from that, hence the big money being touted for two of their current gems.

United are in need of a change of wide-men, there is no doubt about that. A side that once thrived from wide areas now looks bereft of ideas, and the futures of both Nani and Ashley Young remain in doubt, while Antonio Valencia has some way to go to recreate his best form.

So could Mane be the answer, either now or in the future?

Following reports that Juventus are also interested in the player, his agent has been speaking to TMW.

Carlos is very happy in Lisbon,” Dan Chapman said, “but at the same time he is an ambitious player who intends to play at a high level as soon as possible.

“At the same time, however, he is very happy with the current situation.”

What the future holds remains a mystery for now, but Chapman also revealed what he thought were Mane’s main strengths.

He is very gifted technically, able to play on both sides and centrally,” he added. “One of his best weapons is speed.”

From the sounds of it, and from what we have seen of his performances this season, Mane may be a player United could very much do with.
