Liverpool morning news, club linked with Chelsea defender, Allen keen to keep run going

Ashley Cole

A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Friday morning.

Liverpool are ready to make a move for Chelsea’s Ashley Cole according to the Daily Star. The left-back has been struggling for first team football this season having fallen behind Cesar Azpilicueta in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

Left-back is a position that Brendan Rodgers is likely to look at in the summer. 21-year-old Jon Flanagan currently occupies the role but several players have been used in that position this season in the absence of Jose Enrique who has been recovering from a long-term knee injury.

However, the report doesn’t seem to be much different as to what was reported by the Daily Mirror last month, which said the Reds could move to sign the England international on a free transfer in the summer.

Midfielder Joe Allen has said that Liverpool are looking to keep their winning run going right up until the end of the season.

Allen, who also spoke highly of the club’s supports for the welcome they received ahead of their win against Sunderland and their backing so far this campaign, says they are proud of the seven game winning run the side are on so far.

He’s quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “Naturally people will focus on games like the one against Spurs but we've seen that every game is going to be difficult.

“But the run we're on is filling us with confidence and belief that our performances will be good enough to come away with wins.

“People talk about these big games but there are three points up for grabs in every game between now and the end of the season.”

Raheem Sterling has spoken highly of manager Brendan Rodgers in an interview with the BBC, and says he has been a huge influence on his good form this season.

Sterling said: “He’s helped me massively. Not only with my footballing game but if I need someone to talk to off the field he’s there for me. I’ve got to really give credit to him and thank him a lot.”
