Spanish boss confirms Claudio Yacob will miss game with Cardiff, and is sweating on fitness of Anichebe.
West Bromwich Albion manager Pepe Mel has been giving the latest injury news at his Thursday press conference ahead of their crunch fixture with Cardiff this weekend.
Mel had confirmed that captain Chris Brunt, Billy Jones and Claudio Yacob are all ruled out of the fixture, while defender Jonas Olsson will miss the game serving the second of his two-match suspension after picking up a 10th yellow card against Swansea.
The Spanish boss has also said that Victor Anichebe remains a doubt after he limped off in the 76th minute against Hull City last Saturday.
Midfielder Morgan Amalfitano is expected to prove his fitness and make the squad after missing the last two games, and Diego Lugano is set to be available to boost the Baggies defensive numbers.
Mel has referred to the Cardiff game as a ‘cup final’, with both sides fighting for their lives at the foot of the Premier League table.
The game is the ultimate six-pointer for both clubs, but defeat for Cardiff would more than increase the likelihood of relegation.
A loss for West Brom would also spark panic, with fixtures against Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City still to come this season.
Mel is still looking for his first win at the Hawthorns since arriving at Albion in January, while Cardiff only have one Premier League away victory to their name this season.
Who will take the spoils in the crucial, relegation six-pointer?
