It is more than unlikely now that Firmino will join the Reds this summer.
Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim announced before their match against Hannover their key player Roberto Firmino has signed a new contract with them until 2017. Does that put an end to Liverpool’s intentions of signing him?
Probably yes, because Firmino really seems to like it at Hoffenheim. At least that’s the impression you get when you look at his reasons for the contract extension. "I like the way that the club is going. We play an exciting football. I will keep working hard, so that I can help the team also in the future."
Firmino is one of Hoffenheim’s best players with 13 goals and 10 assists this season so far. His decision to stay at Hoffenheim instead of moving to a big club in the Premier League might not seem very logical as Hoffenheim is only in 10th position in the Bundesliga and will probably not play in the Europa League next year. With Liverpool he probably could have even played in the Champions League.
Maybe Firmino thinks he isn’t ready yet for such a big move. He is only 22-years-old and maybe he wants to wait another two or three years more before joining a really big team. A player of his talent, he is bound to eventually land up at a more ambitious club than Hoffenheim.
On the other hand, if it’s really excitement that he’s looking for then he’s already playing for the right club. Hoffenheim have a season goal balance of 60-59 in 27 matches which means that there are an average of 4.4 goals in their matches. More excitement is almost not possible.
They already have the second best attack in the Bundesliga after Bayern and maybe that’s the reason why he really wants to stay. The team have a very good outlook if they manage to purchase two decent defenders and a good goalkeeper, so that next season they won’t be the team with the most conceded goals of all Bundesliga teams again.
Maybe if the club can solve this, his decision to stay faithful to Hoffenheim might just be a shrewd one.
