Liverpool latest: Agger says support reminiscent of CL, Henderson on togetherness

A selection of the key stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Thursday evening.

Daniel Agger has said the welcome the team received ahead of last night’s win over Sunderland was like the Champions League nights at Anfield – but did admit the players made it a little more difficult for themselves than it needed to be.

He’s quoted in the Liverpool Echo, saying: “That was amazing. It just shows how good a support we have.

“We have to give everything to try to win these games because when you get support like that it's difficult to describe.

“We wanted to close the game earlier. It was unnecessary to let them into the game like we did. We didn't keep the ball as well as we did in the first half.”

Jordan Henderson has told the official Liverpool website that there is a real togetherness amongst the squad after they went to within a point of Premier League leaders Chelsea last night.

He said: “The togetherness is there, we all get on really well. We’ll all fight for each other – I think you can see that on the pitch.

“We’re very demanding of each other and we want to help each other out. So if we just keep doing that and keep working hard then our ability will come through.”

Ex-striker John Aldridge has told TalkSport that he believes the club will be able to attract better quality players for next season with the side well on course for Champions League qualification.

“Liverpool need to build on this successful season by keeping Luis Suarez and bringing in the grade A players.

“We haven’t been able to lure those top players in because you can’t give them Champions League football, which we hopefully will be able to.

“If you can build a team around Suarez in the next three or four years and keep him happy, then who knows?”
