Arsenal loanee showed what he is capable of in his brief cameo in midweek.
Arsenal's loan acquisition of Kim Kallstrom was one of the most talked about deals of deadline day, with even the midfielder himself this week admitting the switch came as a surprise.
He was hardly what fans had in mind, desiring a striker, landing a 31-year-old midfielder on loan, and news of his back injury which emerged a day later threatened to turn the move into a major gaffe.
The Swede finally made his debut off the bench on Tuesday night against Swansea City, and didn't waste time in trying to win over the doubters by showing his class.
The brief clip above showcases Kallstrom demonstrating not only his eye for a pass, but his ability to execute it. For a player who has not played any competitive football for two months, it was a clear indication of his talent, and left watching Gooners impressed.
That long pass Kallstrom gave to giroud is what we are missing from this team. Arteta will never do them type of passes— Hussain (@Hussain24Mahbub) March 25, 2014
Kallstrom with the pass of the game! Giroud should have curled a beauty to top it off!— Kie ⚽ (@GoonerKieAFC) March 25, 2014
Kallstrom> Arteta to me Kallstrom moves and has natural defending ability and one hell of a pass on top of that can take set pieces.— Forever World Tails (@ImTails) March 26, 2014
While Arsene Wenger's bold claim that Kallstrom may yet justify him move by scoring the title winning goal appears unlikely at this stage, he does have an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution due to injuries and fatigue in the club's midfield, and an FA Cup semi-final upcoming.
With his brief display against Swansea, he has thrown his name into the mix as a potential starter against Manchester City this weekend, and can provide fresh legs and impetus to a team which really looks like it needs it.
Arsene Wenger may just prove he knew exactly what he was doing after all, and the Frenchman certainly does need some good news right now.
