A big announcement on Manchester United last night turned out to be disappointing. We look at some of the rumours that were doing the rounds...
Last night Twitter was abuzz with rumour and conjecture as several journalists claimed an exclusive piece of ‘big news’ was on the horizon from Manchester United.
The obvious one that sprang to mind was David Moyes.
Has he walked? Has he been sacked?
It was none of them.
Next up was Ezequiel Garay. United have been chasing the Argentine for well over a year now and the SL Benfica star is all set to leave in the summer.
Reports in The Mirror helped this rumour get off the ground. With the loss to Manchester City raw United could do with some good news. Releasing the news of a big done deal would have appeased the masses for now.
Garay was said to potentially be that person - but it never came to fruition.
Then there was William Carvalho.
The Sporting Lisbon midfielder reportedly ‘agreed’ a move to United last week - but those have proven to be just rumours.
Could it have become official yesterday - no is the answer, it was not that.
With Evra’s contract expiring at the end of the season both scenarios were being considered. Some said he might sign a one-year extension whilst other reports suggested he was well and truly on his way out of the club.
Other rumours suggested Robin Van Persie was to go uner the knife for his knee injury - ending his season and World Cup dreams.
So which massive rumour came true?
Well, none of them
The ‘news’ turned out to be an ‘exclusive’ from Duncan Castle of Goal.com and The Times suggesting Manchester United are ‘considering replacements’ for under-fore boss David Moyes.
Nothing concrete, nothing from the club and for those fans and interested neutrals, myself included, who stayed tuned it was once again another disappointing evening for Manchester United.
