Cesc Fabregas was one of the big names linked with a potential arrival at Manchester United in the summer.
David Moyes was after a new creative midfielder and the Spaniard was not exactly a first-team regular at Barcelona.
It was a deal that at one point genuinely did look likely - and left Arsenal fans distraught at the thought.
But despite the interest, on the 8th August last year Fabregas put an end to the rumours with this statement:
"Triumphing in Barcelona has been my dream since I was a child. I am very happy at Barcelona and I haven't spoken to any other club in the last two years."
He later admitted being ‘flattered’ by the United interest - but has now put his head down and got on with a decent season under Tata Martino at the Nou Camp.
Now he has addressed those summer rumours once again.
Speaking to Sport magazine he addressed many things.
He maintained that he ‘will always love Arsenal’ and that he always planned on returning to Catalonia - even when signing for the club as a 16-year-old.
And he was also asked about those United rumours.
“I don’t really know how it went. All I know is, as a football player, when you are wanted by a club – especially the size of Manchester United – it’s always nice and flattering. I always said I’m very happy at Barcelona, I feel comfortable here and I was playing well and I feel important to the team.”
It is great to know that United still have that sort of pulling power - because at this rate they are not going to have European competition available to entice potential signings.
However, it doesn’t look as though he will be on his way to Old Trafford anytime soon.
