Arsenal morning news: No new deal for Arteta and Wenger rumours

All the latest news and gossip from the The Emirates this morning.

It is being reported that Arsene Wenger may be considering his options. The boss has reportedly been stung by recent criticism and is now set to hold out on a two-year extension to his stay at The Emirates.

It is now believed he may consider his future if Arsenal finish out of the top four or do not win the FA Cup this season.

Mikel Arteta will reportedly not be receiving a new contract at the club. have revealed that the Spaniard, whose current deal expires at the end of the 2014-15 season, will not be offered a new deal as Arsenal will instead be looking for fresh blood to improve their midfield.

Arteta, who signed for the club in August 2011, has struggled this season and Arsene Wenger is said to be considering a more dynamic option for his midfield.

With that in mind Arteta may even be sold this summer - as The Gunners could cash in on the former Everton midfielder before he leaves for nothing.

Arsenal legend Robert Pires has given his backing to under-fire boss Arsene Wenger - although he believes his former boss needs to change one thing at the club this summer in order to make a significant difference.

He has joined the growing list of people to suggest Wenger has to bring a striker to act as support to Olivier Giroud - both from the start and from the bench:

"It's very important to buy the other striker because maybe you can play 4-4-2. The priority must be a new striker to play with Olivier Giroud. For the moment, it's a good season. They are fourth and they are playing against Wigan in the semi-final of the FA Cup.

"On Saturday, against Manchester City, it's like a final for the future. If Arsenal win, it's possible to win the title. You never know when you're talking about football..."
