As Arsenal dropped another two points in the Premier League on Tuesday evening, one ex-player was continuing his impressive renaissance since his summer departure.
Gunners fans will have mixed feelings towards Gervinho, but the Ivorian forward has been in sparkling form since he joined Roma – scoring nine goals and providing 11 assists to date.
It was Gervinho who set up both goals in a 2-1 victory over Torino while Arsenal failed to beat Swansea City, dropping two more vital points in a race that may just have switched from being all about the title to being more about qualification for next year’s Champions League.
Gervinho recently revealed that his new coach Rudi Garcia gave him confidence; something he felt was not the case during his time under Wenger.
“The fundamental difference between Roma and Arsenal is the coach,” he told Sports Illustrated.
But citing a lack of game-time at the Emirates Stadium for his reason for leaving, one now wonders if Wenger was too quick to give up on a player who has impressed in both France and Italy; a man with an eye for an assist just as Arsenal are seemingly crying out for exactly that.
