He is probably the player who the current Champions League winner fear most...
Manchester United might be the underdog in the Champions League quarter finals against Bayern, but they have one player who definitely knows how to beat the current German Champion.
Shinji Kagawa played them four times while he was playing at Dortmund and won on all four occasions. Between October 2010 and April 2012 Dortmund beat Bayern in the Bundesliga with Kagawa, twice at home (2-0 and 1-0) and once in Munich (1-0).
The fourth victory was at the German Cup final in May 2012 in Berlin when Dortmund had a more than deserved 5-2 victory and Kagawa even scored a goal. This proved to be his last match for Dortmund as Manchester United signed him shortly after that.
Of course a lot has changed meanwhile and Bayern are nowadays a lot stronger than Dortmund and have also beaten them in the last three matches. The Champions League winners have broken all possible records this season so far, but they still have this negative record against Kagawa. That’s why he is probably the player who Bayern fears most together with Rooney when they will play Manchester United in the Champions League next week.
Kagawa was a key player for Dortmund at that time and was one of the main reasons why they won the Bundesliga twice and the German Cup once. In his two seasons for Dortmund the Japanese midfielder contributed 21 goals and 10 assists and everybody thought that he would also become a superstar in the Premier League.
However, the adaptation to the football in England has been anything but easy for him. Until now he hasn’t translated his outstanding performances with Dortmund and the fans of the Red Devils still wait for his breakthrough. Extending his record to a fifth victory against Bayern would definitely be a good start for that.
