On this day: 'Next Wilshere' targeted as Shaw admits Chelsea love

On the 26th March 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 26th March 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 26th March 2013…

As the Crow flies

It was a year ago today that Arsenal reportedly made their first moves toward signing Aston Villa youngster Daniel Crowley.

The midfielder was being dubbed the ‘next Jack Wilshere’ after a string of impressive performances for Villa.

Just 15-years-old at the time the interest was controversial and Villa were believed to be unhappy with the approaches being made.

In the end Arsenal did get their man - Crowley signing on in the summer of last year.

Unfortunately that moniker of the ‘next Wilshere’ appears to be spot on - as he has struggled with injury in his debut year - but he is still expected to progress up the Arsenal ranks in the years to come.

Are you Shaw?

Luke Shaw sent a shudder down the spine of all potential suitors - as he revealed his boyhood love of Chelsea.

During a Twitter Q&A the Southampton teenager revealed that Chelsea were his favourite club and that Ashley Cole was the best player he had swapped shirts with this season.

A year on and the England international Shaw is being lined up as Cole’s replacement.

I would love Mou

Jose Mourinho admitted he would come back to Chelsea.

In what appeared slightly like a come-and-get-me plea the Portuguese stated:

“I can’t deny in spite of this disgraceful weather I love it here. I have a house, I have big emotional connections with Chelsea. One day I think naturally I have to be back to English football or to Chelsea or to another club. Of course Chelsea means for me differently than the other clubs. Chelsea is in my heart as Inter is for example. So one day I have to be back.”

A few months later and Roman Abramovich went and got him.

Incey-wincey buyer

Tom Ince was reportedly still on the radar of Liverpool FC.

The Blackpool winger and former Liverpool youngster was being heavily linked with a move back to Anfield - but he stayed at Bloomfield Road for family reasons.

A year later and Ince is in a relegation battle with Crystal Palace - with the likes of Monaco and Inter Milan said to be watching him.
