Arsenal were held to a 2-2 draw by Swansea City last night thanks to a late own goal from Frenchman Mathieu Flamini.
It was important for the Gunners to respond following the 6-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea last weekend but Arsenal started slowly and went behind due to a solid header from Wilfried Bony.
The Gunners were probably given the hair dryer treatment at the break by Arsene Wenger and responded in the second-half with goals from Lukas Podolski, who came on as a sub, and Olivier Giroud.
Giroud’s performance in particular was a confusing one and not one of his best by any means.
He was an incredibly frustrating figure to watch in the first-half seemingly out of sync with the rest of Arsenal’s attack.
However, good strikers find ways of scoring goals when they’re not in form and that’s exactly what he did during the second 45 minutes, which allowed Arsenal to hang on for a point.
Wenger’s dream of a Premier League title this season does seem to have evaporated but the club can still win some silverware by the summer.
Arsenal find themselves behind on points to Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea above them with City and Liverpool holding games in hand.
The focus for Arsenal now surely has to be winning the FA Cup, which may not be the trophy that Arsenal fans wanted this season but a piece of silverware they will accept nevertheless to end the drought which has plagued the club since 2005.
Hopefully Giroud can be the man to power them towards that trophy because there have been rumours all season that Arsenal will sign a big money striker this summer, which would threaten the Frenchman’s position in the side.
Here’s what Arsenal fans made of Giroud’s performance last night on Twitter.
Giroud has been incredibly consistent over the past 10-15 games. Consistently the worst player on the pitch. I'm done defending him.— Tom (@FourFourTom) March 25, 2014
Arsenal need a World class striker! We all know that! We know Giroud's limitations. He's still the best striker we have at the moment!— Carl Bövis (@CarlBovis_AFC) March 25, 2014
Giroud would be perfect in a two-striker system.— Arsenal Repört (@ArsenalReport) March 25, 2014
maybe one day wenger realizes podolski is a better striker then Giroud..— $IR MICHAEL WAVE$ (@waverveli) March 26, 2014
#Giroud has changed his instagram account from public to private. The fella must be getting some strong abuse— Randy Osae (@Red_London) March 26, 2014
Take #Giroud out! This criminal does not deserve to be in this team!— WENGER IS A GÖÖNER (@wengerismyson) March 25, 2014
