There’s plenty for Premier League fans to talk about as we gear up for some important mid-week games over the course of this evening and tomorrow.
Arsenal will be looking to recover against Swansea, the latest instalment of the Manchester derby is about to begin and Liverpool have the chance to keep the pressure up on Chelsea tomorrow night.
We decided to cast our minds back to see what fans were talking about on this day last year.
‘Summer fire sale at Manchester United?’
Goal reported that Sir Alex Ferguson was considering axing a number of players from his first team during last summer’s transfer window.
Fergie was thought to be unhappy with the performance and consistency of several players in his first team squad, prompting the rumour of potential big changes.
Those in danger at the time were believed to be; Antonio Valencia, Nani, Anderson and Javier Hernandez.
‘Podolski happy at Arsenal’
Lukas Podolski responded to rumours that he wasn’t happy with his role and life at Arsenal suggesting just the opposite.
The German was linked with moves away from North London with an apparent desire to play regular first team football as a striker and not a left sided midfielder.
“Any interest makes me proud because it is a recognition of my performance in London. It is unlikely [that I will leave] because, at the club and in the town, I feel really comfortable,” said the forward.
‘Negredo hopes for Premier League move’
Alvaro Negredo invited offers for his services from interested Premier League parties.
The then Sevilla star admitted that England’s top division is a league he wanted to experience ‘sooner rather than later’ which was good news to reportedly interested clubs Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur. However, it was ultimately Manchester City who granted him his wish.
“It is a league that I like and sooner or later I will play in it. President Jose Maria del Nido received some offers in January, but decided not to consider them,” said the Spaniard.
